Question
Readability of display in bright sunlight and with polarized sunglasses?
Much of my research has led me to the KD-R900 but I will be installing the head unit in a convertible that seldom has the top up. I am concerned that this type of LCD display washes out it direct sunlight and also that it may be rendered illegible by polarized sunglasses. I don't want to install it, only to find that I cannot read the display. It is pretty difficult to simulate this when looking at a head unit in a dimly lit retail display. Thank you for your advice.

Any type of LCD display is vulnerable to be washed out in direct sunlight, regardless of the model or manufacturer. The only way to know how the LCD will perform in your vehicle to your liking is to try it. The KD-R900, like any in-dash receiver, will repel some sun glare but it is not designed to display full clarity or brightness in direct sunlight.

External Hard Drive Devices can be connected, but not all devices are guaranteed compatible. The connected device must rate at 5 Volts and cannot draw more than 500mA of current (check your wall power plug for these specs, it should be written on it). There are also partition and folder setup requirements. For more information, please consult page 40 of the KD-R900 instruction manual: http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/01/15/GET0608-001A.pdf for more details
